I live 6 blocks from the closest entrance to the UBC endowment lands and every time I’m in there it makes me think that I don’t take advantage of this beautiful spot often enough.
It’s impossible to believe that you’re in the middle of a major city when you’re wandering the interlocking paths. I love to just wander in there, take a right here, take a left there. It’s incredible how easy it is to lose track of the city and all the city noises. Wandering through here I remember that there was a time when I was not a city boy.
Life just seems to slow down in there. Nothing is rushed.
Last Thursday I left the house at my usual (these days) time of 5:40am. The dawn was breaking, the night is lightening and, as I sleepily look around me, I notice that the near full moon is just setting. Later, someone had called in sick at work and they were looking for night shift folk and so I ended up volunteering to come back in the evening to work 6pm-9pm. As I returned to work in the afternoon the sun was just setting. Finally, when I left work at 9pm, the moon was rising. It all made for a day of feeling very in touch with this spinning symphony.
