hour’s walk

Another walk but this evening I push myself downwards on the ($2000 fine if you’re caught on it) path, further than I’ve gone before. I note that I pass several great climbing trees and I think about how cool it would be to climb up there and the view that you’d get from there, as if it isn’t spectacular enough from here. Another night, perhaps.

Down onto the north end of Wreck Beach and out to the water’s edge where the tide is, again, far out. Tom Robbins says that the Pacific is the most inappropriately named body of water on the planet but tonight it brings me peace. So changeless. I leave my prints along the edge of the shore, suffering only mild soakers in the process.

I stay on the beach until the light fades and then make my way up the 1000 steps in the darkness. I feel like Frodo climbing those crazy steps up towards the waiting spider.

Gonna find myself a place in the country
Wake up and reach out and breathe real air
Do you know how it feels clean tissue no scars
Dirty washing on the line, footsteps in the sand
Whose gonna lead us onto some kind of promised land
Save me
