u2 @ gm place

Spurred on by rumors from atu2.com, Ryan and I cruised on down to GM Place last night to see if we might get a chance to sneakily listen in on some of U2’s rehearsals. In truth, I thought that we had only the smallest shot in the dark of actually hearing them especially as I got out of the car and could only hear the rumbling sound of the skytrains passing overhead. However, as I walked closer to GM place I started hearing what could only be a heavy bass and drum beat. It quickly grew into the very familiar bass track of The Fly from Achtung Baby.

I will be honest and say that I did freak out…a bit. Knowing that they are actually here and actually being able to listen to them was utterly awesome. Ryan and I cruelly called Jay and had her listen to what was, by that time, the rehearsal of Vertigo. How well can Jay have slept last night? Sorry Jay :)

As we listened we realized that, not surprisingly, we weren’t the only ones around. There were some….interesting people there last night. I begged Ryan to tell me that I am not that bad.

Ryan called them zombies and I can understand why. There was a really hungry intensity in some of those people there as though the sheer *fun* of hanging out and listening to your favourite band had been replaced with…what? Something. Something not nice. All of the people in this category seemed only to want to compare the number of concerts attended - “hey, let’s measure our fanaticism!”.

“Buddy, I don’t want to compare myself to you.”

I started to feel a little dirty so after they stopped playing we soon took off.

One. More. Month. :)
