Looks like the mini dream is over. I’ve been happily hosting my blog on my own home machine for years now but it looks as though Telus have finally started blocking port 80 for real. I had heard others complain about their ISPs blocking 80 and quietly sat and hoped that I would continue to stealthily pass by. No more.
I mean, not that it really shut me down for longer than the time it took me to stop Apache, change the port number and start up again but it’s a real pain in many ways. If anyone had a bookmark or link to this page it will, of course, no longer work. I’m not exactly sure how the Google spider will handle the change; I’ll have to keep my eyes on things for a little while. And really, who cares anyway since it’s not as if I have been keeping this even remotely up-to-date! I do, however, find it comforting to have this blog here. We have been together for a bit and I’m loath to simply say good riddance regardless of the level of usage. In the end this if for me, not for you, and I enjoy going back into the archives and taking a peak at what I happened to be blabbing about at the time.
So here we are on port 81. I’d put this blog’s functionality at 80%; there are still a few secondary pages that I know have some hard coded links in them which will break. My Gallery site has been the largest victim although I know I could get things working if I spend some time with the configuration files. Bleh.
