So, there you go - that’s it, that’s all. This is the sound of the fat lady singing. Tomorrow, having pushed it off as much as I can, I return to work. This might be a surprise to some who weren’t even aware that I had left work to begin with but this is, indeed, the case.
For the last 2 months I’ve been on a leave of absence from computer-world work and have been in paddling paradise, acting as a kayak guide over on Bowen Island Sea Kayaking. What to say except that it has been utterly amazing to have the time off and I SO do NOT want to return to “work” tomorrow. I am trying to fix all those days when I got paid to paddle people around, swim and lie on beaches firmly in my head so that I don’t forget.
I’m trying hard to stay positive about this whole change realizing that most people don’t even get the opportunity to take a break of this magnitude but it’s just oh, so hard, to get back into the sit-in-front-of-my-computer-for-8-hours mindset.
Capped off the end of the 2004 freedom sessions with some great camping up on the Squamish River with Jay, Kieran and Ryan on Saturday night. It was also my 33rd birthday on Saturday which was very fun and relaxing other than the ultimately futile search for the hidden campsite along the Squamish River logging road - in a Budget-reservations-are-incompetant minivan, no less.
