The prime minister of Iraq, Iyad Allawi, passed the National Safety Law which allows for incredible powers for the Iraqi military anywhere there is a perceived threat to national security. This allows for searching of personal property, interception of mail and phone calls, detention without charges. I can’t believe how many times I’ve heard the mantra that the U.S. military is going to “free” the Iraqi people or that they are going to “liberate” the Iraqi people.
Does this sound like freedom to you?
Throw in the use of chemical weapons and I would say that they are right back where they started.
