Talk Without Speaking

There really are monsters out there.

I’ve been helplessly following the Ardeth Wood tragedy. I’m not sure why it grips me so much except that this is Ottawa, my home town, and it seems more unexpected and out of place there, than a comparable crime would seem here in Vancouver.

I don’t know about any of you but Vancouver has always seemed as though it has its shady underside. People say it has something to do with being a port town but whatever your excuse I don’t think that there’s much comparing to be done between Ottawa and Vancouver.

In any event, I’m amazed that the family has already forgiven her killer even though he remains at large - they are a strong Catholic family from the news reports that I’ve read. I think it’s quite amazing that they use their faith to find solace; to forgive the unforgivable.

This is in harsh contrast to those protesting same sex marriages downtown this last weekend - using their faith to find fault with others, to promote intolerance and bigotry. It’s a weird, terrifying world out there sometimes.
