Peace Rally

As I mentioned earlier I went to the Vancouver anti-war rally today. According to Geoff there were more people at the rally than the earlier rallies. In fact, the organizers estimated that there were 35,000 people in attendance although the city came up with 20,000 as a number. Globally apparently 6 million people rallied - although I’ve heard all kinds of wacky numbers thrown around going as high as 500 million! (as cool as that would be, I *don’t* think so, guys)

I took my camera and ended up taking quite a few pictures (it’s hard to take decent pictures when you’re in throngs of people being jostled around!). One of the pictures that I took is here. I thought that this picture captured the emotion of the day for me and so I posted the picture at dpreview.com. The subsequent reaction and discussion surrounding the picture eventually resulted in me removing the picture from this thread. If you care, you can read the entire thread.

It was surprisingly exhilarating to be a part of such a large crowd with common beliefs (to a certain extent, I guess). This was the first time that I have ever felt compelled to ‘protest’ anything; I can see how some people get addicted to the communal feeling. You can click on the movie image below to take a small peek at the crowd. Note: You probably need QuickTime 6 in order to view this movie - it’s an mp4.
