Baffin Planning

Gadzooks! It’s been a while since I posted in here. I’ve been meaning to since before Christmas but time, around this time of year, has a way of simply flying by like geese on their way south for the winter. Which isn’t to say that there hasn’t been stuff worth posting about because their certainly has.

Spent some time organzing the Trip to Baffin ™ which is coming along nicely. Thank God for Aeroplan which is allowing both Catherine and I to fly from Vancouver to Pangnirtung on Baffin Island for a grand total of $90!! How is that for a deal and a half?! This pays for our annual fee for our Aeroplan Visa ($120) for about the next 35 years or so ;)

In preparation for the trip Catherine and I went out and picked up the Nunatak which looks as though it’s going to handle whatever weather we face up there and then some. After weeks worth of research it came down to this tent, some mystery tents from the MEC rival, Taiga (can’t link to their web site since they don’t have one (wtf!)), and a couple of the Sierra Designs tents, notably the Lookout. The Lookout would more than handle our everyday camping experience but might not handle stuff that Baffin could conceivably throw at us. The Nunatak, on the other hand, really comes across as bomb-proof. I’m hoping to get it up to Garabaldi (snowshoes?) in the next couple of weeks and give it a try. Hey, with the amount of snow that we’ve been getting here in the last bit, snowshoes might not even be needed. Woe is snow! (or lack therof).
